Guar gum, or clusterbean, (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taub) is a drought-tolerant annual legume that was introduced into the United States from India in 1903.
The major world Guar Gum suppliers and manufacturers can be found in India and Pakistan. India is the leading exporter of guar gum, commanding about 80 % of global production, followed by Pakistan. 20 % of the Indian production is used domestically, 80 % exported.
The guar gum manufacturing process yields husk and germ called “guar meal”, widely sold in the international market as cattle feed. It is high in protein and contains oil and albuminoids, about 50% in germ and about 25% in husks.
